Single Payer Action vs. Congressman Bilirakis
June 21, 2009
Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-Florida) was not happy.
On Saturday morning, Bilirakis was about to open what he was calling a “home foreclosure assistance workshop” in Palm Harbor, Florida.
But Single Payer Action’s Austin Case disrupted the opening and confronted Bilirakis about why he opposes the only health insurance reform that will both control costs and cover everyone — single payer national health insurance.
Bilirakis pointed to Case and asked him to go outside to continue the conversation.
Outside, Case asked Bilirakis whether he would support legislation that would cover everyone.
Bilirakis said he would have to look at the terms of the bill.
“You understand why I’m doing this,” Case told Bilirakis. “By the end of our conversation someone will be dead because of the policies you support.”
“That’s not correct,” a clearly irritated Bilirakis shot back.
Yes it is correct, Congressman.
Sixty people dead on Saturday because of the policies you support.
Sixty people dead on Sunday.
Sixty people dead on Monday.
Because of the policies you support.
Single payer is the only health care reform that will both control costs and cover everyone.
Onward to single payer.
