Jayde Nicole: Yes to Single Payer

July 15, 2009

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) held it’s annual veggie hot dog giveaway on Capitol Hill today.

A long line stretched around the Rayburn House Office Building — staffers, tourists, and lobbyists waiting to get a hold of a veggie dog — with sauerkraut, ketchup, mustard or relish to top it off.

Handing out the dogs — Playboy Playmate of the Year Jayde Nicole and her Playmate colleague Jo Garcia.

While standing in line, we asked PETA spokesperson Ashley Byrne whether PETA supported single payer national health insurance for humans.

“Well, we don’t take a stance on any issues that don’t directly relate to animals,” Byrne said.

That didn’t stop Jayde Nicole from stepping up to the plate.

“I’m Canadian, so I’m all for health care,” Nicole said.

Does she like the single payer system in Canada?

“It works well for us, but it’s been in place for a very long time,” Nicole said. “It hasn’t been like that in the U.S.”

“Of course, I love it, because I don’t have to pay for my health care,” Nicole said.

But sixty Americans die every day here from lack of health of insurance.

Don’t you think we should have single payer here in the USA?

What about us?

“Of course they should, but it’s going to be hard to put that in place all at once,” Nicole said.
